The subwoofer can be connected either in parallel to the satellite's bass driver or to an external subwoofer amplifier.
Excerpt of the review in Klang+Ton 1/2008: ... "My own records were still stashed somewhere in storeroom, forcing me to use music material provided by colleagues - partly obscure and suspicious stuff ... I started with a direct cut of a flamenco piece by Carlos Montoya - somewhat unwieldy and I needed to get used to it since Carlos improvised a lot - but the Point P succeeded within a few bars in involving me into this immensely dynamic recording. This was largely due to the fascinating and realistic presentation of the room where the guitar, picking noise and the natural room reverberation melted into an integrated whole. The feared exaggeration of dynamics that could even be slightly high-strung, didn't take place, in fact, despite an exorbitant attack this speaker is absolutely suited for a living room. Well, picking a guitar is one thing, a complete band with bass and drums something else. Even more complex arrangements at volumes where other speakers might lose their composure and forget about three-dimensionality when trying to follow dynamic jumps, this speaker stays calm and collected. With this relaxed behaviour the PHL speaker is more than just appropriate for longer listening sessions and can be connected to all types of amplifiers. Our listening room is a borderline case, the two-bass-version PHL, therefore, provided considerably more fun. While before the bass was maybe a little too controlled and disciplined it was now a lot more fun – and even though I loathe reggae I let several records massage my sternum. Don't get me wrong, this doubled Point P is still disciplined but with a little more low bass punch. Acoustically, the joint venture between the bass drivers and the coax works well – and those of you who are experiencing too much bass due to a small or inadequate listening room, may activate the second bass in each speaker and have it controlled independently from the main speaker. The Point P demonstrates in any configuration how control and dynamics of an excellent PA speaker can successfully be combined with total balance and attention to detail of an outstanding hi-fi speaker."
