BK 108 FF by Art of Sound, Günter Damde     as in Hobby HiFi 1/2006

BK 108 FF aus Hobby Hifi 1/2006
Technical data:
- impedance: 8 Ohm
- rated SPL (2.83V/1m): 95 dB
- size (HxWxD): 90 x 20 x 44.5 cm
- frequency range (-3dB): 50 - 23000 Hz
- crossover frequency: 6300 Hz
- speaker type: exponential horn
Using a Fostex kit, originally equipped with a FE 108, Günter Damde of Art of Sound tried out the Fostex FF125 instead. Since the high frequencies were not adequate he added a Fostex FT 17 H turning it into a horn with an excellent price / performance ratio.

The cabinet is ideal for DIY - it consists only of right angle boards, available in most hardware stores.

An excerpt of a review by Hobby HiFi in comparison to the TB-Horn:

... "This small horn shows a remarkable enthusiasm. This is, certainly, partly caused by an astonishingly high efficiency. But then, the Fostex horn also displays a totally different approach in sound distribution. While the TB Horn's sound was voluminous and bass heavy with a rather subdued midrange, the BK 108 FF concentrates on the mid frequencies. Bass was tight, clear and remarkably low, but they still fall behind compared with the TB Horn. Positioned closed to the rear wall the difference became negligible. Free standing they tend to be more modest "The O-Zone Percussion Group" showed what the Fostex Horn likes most: Drums in all variations. These small speaker almost seem to explode. It's absolutely amazing, how these speakers come out of their shell. They also manage, however, more sophisticated material: Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" played on original instruments or acapella (Livingston Taylor with "Grandma's Hands") were performed to the full satisfaction of the listeners. They sometimes don't stick to the truth, but that can be forgiven, since the slips are rather subtle. They only become more evident when they are played against reference speakers."
